Three rounded up during Lyari operation

KARACHI: Three suspects were held with arms and drugs as the operation against criminal elements in Lyari continued for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, Geo News reported.

According to SSP CID Chaudhry Aslam, security forces detained three suspects and recovered arms from their possession during the operation in Nayabad and Daryabad areas of Lyari. The suspects were transferred to undisclosed location for investigation.

Earlier on Tuesday, ten suspects were arrested and the Anti-Extremism Cell (AEC) of CID Sindh managed to retrieve Lyari Football Ground from the possession of the gangsters.

It may be noted here that taking notice of the killing of Katchi Rabita Committee (KRC) leader Rasheed Katchi by the gangsters in Kalri area on Sunday night, the Sindh government had directed the CID Sindh and the area police to clear the area from criminal elements.

CID Sindh had conducted raid early Monday morning and arrested nine members of the banned People’s Aman Committee (PAC) and on their disclosure another raid was conducted in Lyari in midnight during which they demolished gambling and drug dens from different areas of Lyari Town.

Meanwhile, police recorded the statement of Ibrahim Katchi, who had sustained injuries during the attack on KRC leader Rasheed Katchi, after he regained senses on Monday night.

However, unidentified armed men again entered various Lyari areas on Tuesday night and resorted to aerial firing, forcing the traders to pull down shutters, as the life in the area came to a halt within half an hour.

Police said that law and order situation occurred in Khada Market, Agra Taj Colony, Nawa Lane, Singo Lane, Jat Pat Market, Cheel Chowk and Aath Chowk. Moreover, the residents of Lyari lodged a protest and torched tyres against the continuous operation by police and Rangers in their area as well as against the closing of football ground.

Meanwhile, in a late night development, law enforcers, including personnel of the AEC, conducted raids in Lyari and rounded up 10 suspects with arms. They also raided the Lyari General Hospital from where they arrested two more suspects, who were receiving treatment for injuries they sustained while allegedly torching a car. The police said that the suspects were involved in setting the vehicle ablaze.
